Eight Organization Tips for Back to School Success

Here are some organizational tips for implementing for your school-age child:
1. Set up a daily “check-in” time
To open the lines of communication, set up a regular time to check in with your child about their schoolwork, what is due when, upcoming tests, setting up a calendar system, helping your child with their homework or getting a tutor, etc. Discuss what level of involvement they need and the follow-up that will be implemented.
2. Set up a school workspace in your home

3. Set up a homework routine
Communicate with your child to figure out a routine each day to complete their homework to prevent procrastination and late nights.

Plan the breakfast for the next morning. Put a note on the kitchen of things to remember to take to school. This way, you have a good night’s sleep with everything planned and you wake up to a productive and stress-free morning starting the day of school for the children and work for parents. So a great way to avoid the clutter each week is to schedule a 20 minute pre-set time each week where everyone in the house drops what they’re doing to clean and get organized. This is a great family project to stay on track with school and home organization efforts.
8. Create a calendar
Creating a space for a calendar for your child’s extracurricular activities is a great way to get the entire family on the same page. Use it to write down the times for swim practice, track, band, drama, etc. Keep the whole family informed and on the same page.
